Caitlin Heaney and “O Holy Night”

My friend Caitlin recently posted a video of herself singing “O Holy Night” on her YouTube channel, CaitlinHeaneyMusic. Today is the day after Christmas, and “O Holy Night” is a gorgeous Christmas song, and of course, Caitlin sounds beautiful, so I thought I’d post the video here. Enjoy!

All Rocks Go to Heaven

All rocks go to heaven. That may not make sense to you unless you’ve seen the series of photos of two churches’ welcome signs (and even then, it still may not make sense). It began with a Catholic church, Our Lady of Martyrs, (and by the way, it was really difficult not automatically typing Mawrtyrs) stating that “all dogs go to heaven.” Beulah, Cumberland Presbyterian church, took offense to the idea that anyone other than a human would go to heaven. It is a hilarious conversation.

Puppy Christmas!

This video, “Puppy Christmas,” is so freaking cute. Puppies! There’s not much cuter than puppies.

Glee’s Fashion Night Out

A few thoughts on the Glee cast’s “Fashion Night Out” video: Lea looks so glamorous; I love that silvery sequined dress. Harry Shum, Jr.’s dancing is great, as always. I’m not really feeling the lace-up sneaker look for Dianna Agron. I’m also loving Heather Morris’s red lipstick. Darren always looks dapper, although his hairs strikes me as not as polished as usual. And where is Chris? Seriously? You barely see him until 2:30. And even then, Darren is way more noticeable (granted, I love Darren Criss, but it’s just a little weird that Chris Colfer seems so backgrounded). It looks as though they’re really capitalizing on how huge a fan base Darren Criss has. 

Barking Cat

Maybe this is doctored, but it seriously looks like the cat is barking at something outside the window. And then, upon realizing that someone has noticed the barking, the cat switches over to purring. Because it’s a cat, you know, not a dog. I think it’s hilarious.

A Timeline of US Deficits (From Political Animal)

Steve Benen put together a timeline of events (mostly U.S. deficit-related) for Washington Monthly. I then discovered it on Facebook (where, to be honest, I get most of my news that doesn’t come from The Rachel Maddow Show). And now I will be posting a link to it here. Basically, the majority of congressional Republicans just don’t make any sense. 

Nail Polish isn’t just for women, but Alphanail is NOT what I had in mind

I think nail polish is fabulous. Seriously, I love it. Black, bright colors, jewel tones — I think it’s great. I’ve posted before arguing that nail polish should be socially acceptable for everyone, not just for (feminine cis) women. However, when I say that nail polish is for everyone, I don’t mean Alphanail. Alphanail rather horrifies me, actually. Bitch Media posted a good response to it here.

The Ugly Side of SlutWalk

I have a few friends who are really excited about SlutWalk. I didn’t know much about it; I just assumed that it had to do with sex-positivity and the fact that wearing “provocative” clothing doesn’t mean that someone is “asking for it.” Those are good messages, and so I didn’t give it much thought. And then another friend posted a link on Facebook to Aura Blogando’s “SlutWalk: A Stroll Through White Supremacy,” and everything changed.
