To: All you “Birthers” who think that Obama isn’t a natural-born citizen
According to U.S. Constitution Online, Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4 of the Constitution allows Congress to create laws regarding naturalization, including citizenship. According to Cornell University Law School, Section 1401 of the U.S. Code states:
The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth:
(a) a person born in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof;
. . .
(g) a person born outside the geographical limits of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents one of whom is an alien, and the other a citizen of the United States who, prior to the birth of such person, was physically present in the United States or its outlying possessions for a period or periods totaling not less than five years, at least two of which were after attaining the age of fourteen years
U.S. Constitution Online writes, “Anyone falling into these categories is considered natural-born, and is eligible to run for President.”
Barack Hussein Obama: in which category does he fall?
According to USA.gov, Hawaii is one of the United States’ fifty states. According to HistoryCentral.com (and Wikipedia), Hawaii become the United States’ fiftieth state on August 21, 1959. According to BarackObama.com, Obama was born on August 4th, 1961 in Hawaii (after Hawaii became a state, if that wasn’t clear). According to FactCheck.org, Obama’s birth certificate is, in fact, legitimate. Therefore, because Barack Obama was born in the United States, he is a natural-born citizen.
Still not good enough for you? Okay, I’ll just — hypothetically, for the sake of argument — pretend that Obama wasn’t born in the United States. Do you deny that Obama’s mother is his mother? No? Okay, well, do you deny that Obama’s mother is a U.S. citizen? No? Excellent. Are you going to agree that Obama’s mother was physically present in the U.S. for at least five years before Obama was born? And that at least two of those years were after she was fourteen (for example, when she went to high school in Washington)? Well, the little section marked “g,” above, from the U.S. Code means that — even if Obama were not born in the United States — Obama would still be considered a natural-born citizen.
And there we have it! Even pretending that your conspiracy theories about Obama not being born in the U.S. are correct, Barack Obama — the 44th President of the United States — is still a natural-born citizen and, as such, is legally allowed to run for, and become, the President. Isn’t it fascinating what you can learn when you check your facts?
