Topic #199: List the 5 most important books you’ve read
Over the past six months or so, I’ve encountered a number of books that have deeply influenced how I think — to the point that my list of most influential books has changed almost entirely from what it was even a year ago. While I reflect on those changes, here is my previous list of most important books: Continue reading
I adore Dar. And while I think that absolute best Dar concert is the Dar-at-Bryn-Mawr concert, tonight was pretty excellent (even though it was Dar and someone else). The first half of the concert consisted of Joan Osborne and then, finally, what I’d been waiting for all night — Dar appeared on stage. And she was her endearing, quirky, warm, exceptional self. It was a fantastic concert. Continue reading

Facebook alerted me today to the fact that the newest season of The Sing-Off has started. As I began to watch the show, the first thought that passed through my mind was that I miss a cappella so much. The second thought was that I’ve found my favorite group already — the University of Rochester’s YellowJackets.
And while I don’t really like the yellow blazers (it’s a bit loud for my tastes, although I think it’s a cute play on words), I’m a fan of the group. By the time they got to Kenya (well, really during the “we’re nerds” canoeing part), I was on their side. Continue reading
My immediate reaction is that if I were to put together a perfect concert, it would absolutely need to have Ani, Dar, Babs, and Darren Criss. I thought a little more about what would really make it unforgettable — what would combine all of my favorite performances (not so much favorite songs, but favorite performances and performers), and I added a few more names: Kim (from the Night Owls, one of Bryn Mawr’s a cappella groups), P!nk, Cher, and ShinHwa (my childhood favorite Kpop group). I mean, if we could squeeze in Chris Colfer, Idina Menzel, NPH, and John Barrowman, that’d be fantastic, but I wouldn’t want to get greedy (you have to draw the line somewhere, after all). Topic #233: Describe the perfect Sunday.
May Day is the perfect Sunday. Traditions, Mawrtyrs, strawberries and cream, the May Hole, Step Sing, The Philadelphia Story, drinks on the Green: all set against the unparalleled backdrop of Bryn Mawr College — how could a Sunday be better? Ordinarily, I’m not especially attached to any particular day, but Bryn Mawr’s May Day is always on Sunday, and every May Day I have attended has been glorious. Continue reading
My friend is participating in a challenge on Facebook regarding posts about songs, and it looked like fun, so here I go!
Day 1: Your favorite song
Oh, no, I’m going to fail this challenge before I even really start. I don’t think I can pick one song. I love so very many songs, and I have strong sentimental attachments to a lot of songs.
According to my iTunes, my top five most played songs are as follows: Continue reading

I have been showing everyone a handful of clips from this year’s Tony Awards — “I Believe” from The Book of Mormon, Hugh Jackman and Neil Patrick Harris doing their little mock battle/duet, and NPH’s closing rap. I think they are just so fabulous. I loved this year’s Tony Awards. Continue reading
