I love Wise Acre Eatery. I first heard about it from a review in the Star Tribune (the local Minneapolis paper): they raved about the food. Wise Acre Eatery prides itself on using mostly using harvest from the Tanglewood Gardens’ farm in Plato, MN. All of their meat products come from that farm — animals that lived “stress-free, hormone-free lives with plenty of room to roam.” The food is delicious, and nearly everything is house-made. Pumphouse Creamery is, without a doubt, one of my favorite ice cream places ever. They’re located at 48th and Chicago, and they have amazing ice cream flavors and favor local ingredients. Their “house made waffle cones are made with local and organically grown whole grains and seeds from Whole Grain Milling Company in Welcome, MN.” Continue reading
I just got back from my second Ani DiFranco concert, and she was utterly amazing — magnetic, endearing, humourous, and, of course, musically incomparable.
And oh, man, can she play guitar.
I got a fresh haircut today, just in time for my first visit back to Chicago (tomorrow!) since I left in April. Also, I was called “he” at a haircut for the first time without needing to correct anyone or specifically tell someone that I prefer masculine pronouns. I’m still not quite sure what to make of it. As of tonight, I have been to exactly three Twins games (Minnesota’s professional team) — or at least, three that I remember — and they won!
As most of you likely know, I’m not a big sports fan. But I went to a game tonight, actually paid attention (mostly) and ended up enjoying it. Continue reading
Rihanna at the Target Center
Last night, my two Twin Cities-based cousins and I went to the Rihanna concert at the Target Center. It was like no show I’d ever seen before. Half a dozen costume changes, pyrotechnics, glitter, platforms rising into the air — the works. Granted, I’ve never been to a concert so big before (Dar, Ani, Flogging Molly . . . I suppose the Glee tour comes the closest). All in all, Rihanna really puts on a show.

I’ve been feeling a bit out of sorts for the past few days — stressed about job searching and deeply missing people in Chicago, mostly — and so I decided to make a list of things that make me happy. More than that, I decided to compile a group of photos from the past week or two (not just of people and places that I miss) that make me smile. Continue reading

After months of phone calls, appointments, fighting with the insurance company, and stressful waiting, I finally gave myself my first shot of T today (testosterone, for those who don’t know)! I was worried I’d somehow screw it up or be incapable of actually injecting myself, so I went to the Minnesota Transgender Health Coalition‘s shot clinic. It all went well, and I even managed to do it myself! Continue reading

Glee in Minneapolis
The Glee Live Tour came to the Target Center in Minneapolis tonight, and I got to see it! It was incredible. Despite my problems with Glee as a show, I really do adore the cast and music of Glee. The cast of Glee is so talented (and Darren Criss joined them for the tour!), and the show exceeded my already high expectations. Continue reading
